Total System for Month:
Total Cal-Am system production for May was 1,606 acre-feet (AF), 14
percent more than the anticipated goal of 1,405 AF, as shown on the
accompanying table (Exhibit 31-A).
The 1,606 AF of production in May represents zero savings from Cal-Am's base
year (i.e., Water Year 1988) production of 1,603 AF.
Total System, Water Year to
Date: Total system production for the 2004 Water
Year (WY) through May 31, 2004 has been 9,247 AF. The anticipated production of 9,386 AF for this same period is
based on an annual production goal of 15,285 AF from the Cal-Am system. Monthly
production goals are calculated by multiplying total annual production (15,285
AF) times the average fraction of annual production for each month (based on
production data from 1988 to 1997). It
should be noted that the total system production of 9,247 AF includes 160 AF
that were produced from the Lower Carmel Valley and injected into the Seaside
Basin. The 160 AF of injection water
were not produced for customer use and does not count against the SWRCB Order
95-10 diversion limit. Without the 160
AF, Cal-Am’s year-to-date system production is 9,087 AF, which is 98 AF or 1.1%
greater than the year-to-date at month-end target that has been set based on
Order 95-10.
Ground Water Production: During May, 29 AF were produced from Cal-Am wells in the Upper Carmel Valley. This production was 68 percent less than the anticipated production of 92 AF. Lower Carmel Valley well production was 1,008 AF, four percent more than the anticipated production of 972 AF. In May, 569 AF were produced by Cal-Am from the coastal subareas of the Seaside Basin, 67 percent more than the anticipated production of 341 AF. It should be noted that during May, Carmel River flows were not sufficient to permit the District to continue its injection testing program in the Seaside Basin.
Surface Water Production: In
May, no water was diverted through the Carmel Valley Filter Plant (CVFP) from
San Clemente Reservoir, equivalent to the zero AF of production that was
anticipated. The total diversion
through the CVFP for WY 2004 has been zero AF, or zero percent of total system
production. Average release to the Carmel River from San Clemente Dam during
May was 22 cubic feet per second, as measured at the Sleepy Hollow Weir.
The anticipated river flow,
storage values and production goals were developed jointly by the District,
Cal-Am, and the California Department of Fish and Game in consultation with
NOAA Fisheries. Cal-Am and District
staff are monitoring reservoir storage, inflow and water quality, and will make
additional changes as conditions warrant.
Please refer to Exhibit 31-A for additional information
regarding Cal-Am production in May 2004.
